Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has instructed the management of the Abia State College to instantly cancel the increase in school fees which was announced by the university management on Monday, April 17, 2023.
The directive was announced in an announcement issued by a media aide to the governor, Onyebuchi Ememanka, on Monday night, April 17. The assertion described the payment which was increased by over a 350% as “unacceptable” and instructed its instant cancelation.
The Abia State governor also said that while it’s becoming increasingly difficult for the university to play effectively function beneath the present fiscal regime, the varsity’s administration should perceive that it should be certain that kids of the poor within the state are given the chance to entry tertiary schooling.
The university administration was additionally instructed by governor to interact with all related stakeholders in the community and have strong discussions before considering any increase in school fees. It also promised the school that the state government will always help them with subventions.
