The good news about this scholarship is that IELTS which is The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to help you work, study or migrate to a country where English is the native language is not mandatory for the MEXT Scholarship.
You will Study in Japan without IELTS/TOEFL. All-Academic fields and Majors are available to Study. The Applicants will Study at any of the Japanese university. Last Year 9,423 international students receive the MEXT Government Funded Scholarship.
The MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship is open to all the participants from Asia, Pacific, North America, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, Africa who have diplomatic relations with Japan. While this great MEXT scholarship is not limited to only Indonesian students, there are a number of Indonesian students who have succeeded in receiving this scholarship in the past. MEXT scholarship is sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan (often referred to as MEXT). The MEXT Scholarship is an initiative launched by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of the Japanese government that comes with the Global 30 Project in order to support international students who study at higher education institutions in Japan. MEXT Scholarship is given for international students from all around the world based on the recommendation of the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General or respective universities that the students plan to apply for.
The benefits offered by MEXT Scholarship are as follows:
- Exemption from paying tuition, entrance examination, and matriculation fees.
- A monthly stipend of 117,000 JPY per month (for undergraduate students), 144,000 JPY per month (for graduate students), and 145,000 JPY per month (for doctoral students)
- Cost of Living Adjustment: JPY 2,000 – 3,000 in selected areas
- Round-trip flight ticket to Japan (one time; covered by MEXT or the university)

Who can apply For this Great Scholarship?Â
Must be a South African in good health;
Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese;
Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arrival;
Applicants must have the ability to do research and adapt to living in Japan.

Fields of study for the Great ScholarshipÂ
- Research students (Master’s, Doctoral or Professional Graduate Course)
Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or a related field.
The fields of study must be the courses that applicants will be able to study and research at Japanese universities.
Must be under 35 years of age and a university graduate (includes prospective graduates).
Minimum of an Honour’s degree or NQF level 8 qualification required.

2. Undergraduate students
Must be at least 17 and under 25 years of age and have a National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
Applicants who wish to undertake undergraduate studies in Japan must choose a major field of study from option (1) or (2) below. Applicants may enter their first, second, and third choice.
(1) Social Sciences and Humanities
1-A: Law, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language.
1-B: Economics, Business Administration.
(2) Natural Sciences
2-A: Science (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), Electric and Electronic Studies (Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering), Mechanical Studies (Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture), Civil Engineering and Architecture (Civil Engineering, Architecture, Environmental Engineering), Chemical Studies (Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile Engineering), other fields (Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Biotechnology).
2-B: Agricultural studies (Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science, Fisheries), Hygienic studies (Pharmacy, Hygienics, Nursing), and Science (Biology)
