OAU Condemns Murder Of Final Year Student Over Theft, Orders Probe

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has criticized, the event that caused the demise of a final-year student of the school,who bears the name Okoli Chizoputam over allegations of phone theft.

The university, in an announcement released by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, on Tuesday, April 11, mentioned preliminary investigation showed that the student died of a mob action on the allegation that he stole a telephone.

He reported that the event as unfortunate, and that the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has organised a group to resolve the issue that led to the event.

Olarewaju mentioned that the mob motion was a breaching of the law of the nation and of the University regulations and that the event has been reported to the police who’ve started investigations.
